This year has been the worst of my life! Lost job, home, partner all in quite nasty circumstances, concluding with bankruptcy. I went under counselling during it and because of my negative outlook, sneered at it at first. Well, after all, I was in a very negative place!

However, now that I can see light at the end of the tunnel, I find myself referring to stuff on the course below (it's free), and although I know the techniques used from old, still found it beneficial.

It has quick tests that are used to measure your mental health each time you log in.

I hope it's of help, you'll get there :)
I still get negative thoughts, but can deal with and relegate them, which leads to thinking positive.

Hi recoveryboy... I still haven't made any real friends in recovery, but everything just takes time. I definitely see the difference in how I relate to acquaintances, and how I would approach friendships differently now that I'm sober.

Everything comes in its own time, when I am ready for it. Patience is something I'm working on now.

When I first started recovery I thought it was the end of my social life. In fact it has been the start of a much better social life - much more healthy.

Thanks Bluefunk. It's funny how we suffer from two different things but our thought processes can be very similar. I see myself in a lot of your posts, and I appreciate all your comments as well.

I've really found your blog helpful as well. It's funny, I had a different kind of blog a while ago, where I posted positive stuff and was more thoughtful about posts ... but it didn't feel real to me at the time, I don't think I was in the right space in my life ... so I went anonymous and created the one I have now where I spew things out off the top of my head - haha. Kinda funny. But I think I haven't done the work you have and so it didn't feel real to me.

I think it's great that you're wanting to move forward in a positive way because you've really earned it through all your struggles. I think writing it all out has helped you to grow and move to the more positive place you're at now. I admire that.

Good luck with your new venture - I'll definitely drop by for a read.

Thanks for all the supportive comments you've given me, I really appreciate it.

I'm glad you found my blog too, although I would've found yours sooner or later. You helped me see that I can find my own path, and I don't know that I could've gotten this far without doing that. So thanks for that.

As for the blog, I feel like there is so much great dialogue in the comments, so much wisdom shared from different perspectives, that it's not just mine anymore. I think I will eventually go back and clean out any identifing information, and some negative stuff I said about others in my life, because that doesn't need to stay out there. But I know there are people starting a similar journey everyday, who can identify with how crazy and doubtful my thoughts were, and they could use the wisdom of those comments too.

"I feel like it would be dishonest to take the old stuff down. And I know that there is somebody out there who might connect with how I was feeling at the time."

One day when have some time, i want to go back and find the first post i ever saw here.
I connected bigtime, and was glad to find this blog.
Others will too if u leave it up.

I will visit u at your new place, Melinda.

"Can’t I just go to sleep for a year and wake up a new person?"

hahaha
I can't believe you said that, that's funny, only because I've said that so many times myself.

As for MJ, I was never really a fan in any way, and yet i know so much about him. That's sad, because it meant he lived in a fishbowl.
May he finally just RIP.

I have heard anxiety has something to do with the absence or low levels of Serotonin which is a neurotransmitters that is necessary to keep us happy. According to medical research, it is not just family, personal or work related probs that causes anxiety.
